Support, Maintenance and Enhancement of a SAP-based Supply Chain Management (SCM) Application

Neev provides support and maintenance to the SAP Supply Chain Management (SCM) application of a major producer of electrical goods in India. The system is used by the client to track orders and deliveries. Neev helped the client with feature enhancements to their Order Management portal and with the development of a Reports module that fetches real-time data. Neev also helped the client get real-time status updates on orders/deliveries, thus enabling smooth operations. Due to the success of this project, Neev was able to bag another project from the client to develop a Price Authorization (PA) system that enables the Motors division of the client to request, approve and track discounts.

The Client

In the last seventy years, Crompton Greaves (CG) has become synonymous with electricity in India. As a matter of fact, the first unit of electricity was generated on a "Crompton Dynamo" at Calcutta in 1899. A pioneer in the management and application of Electrical energy, CromptonGreaves, today, is among India's largest private sector enterprises, engaged in designing, manufacturing and marketing high technology electrical products and services related to power generation, transmission, distribution as well as executing turnkey projects.

Business Need

Crompton Greaves (CG) India has internally implemented a SAP application called Dealer Net to power their Supply Chain Management system. Externally, the system uses a web-based application to track orders and delivery. This application, which was installed by a third-party vendor in 2005, was built using J2EE. The application was left with no support and maintenance. In due course, CG came up with a number of requirements to enhance the portal and to add more connectors to the SAP server to track real-time data for orders and deliveries. The client approached Neev not only for support and maintenance of Dealer Net but also with requirements to enhance the SCM application, enable reception of real time data from SAP, etc.

With its expertise in Java and inputs from the in-house SCM professionals, Neev took less than two weeks to study and absorb the functional flows and the application code. An in-depth knowledge of the functionalities at CG contributed to a quick turnaround. Neev extends support and maintenance services to CG for its Dealer Net portal. It includes:

  • Incorporating feature enhancements
  • Making calls to SAP RFC (Remote Function Call) to push orders/deliveries, get real-time status updates for orders/deliveries, etc.
  • Building Reports module by pulling real-time data from SAP.
