osCommerce is among the first open source shopping cart applications available on the Internet and grew rapidly during its early days. However lately it has been completely over shadowed by Magento mainly due to the extensive feature list that Magento provides out of the box and also due to factors like security and scalability where Magento is ahead of osCommerce by leaps and bounds.
While nearly all new Online Shopping carts are being built on top of Magento, a significant number of stores built on osCommerce are eager to migrate to Magento but have not been able to do because of complications with migrating their inventory, orders, customer database etc.
Thankfully the Magento Core team has released an extension which would simplify the migration process.
By using the osCommerce Migration Tool one can easily migrate customers, orders, categories and products information that too in multiple languages into a Magento Instance.
This tool works with osCommerce 2.2 RC2. While the tool migrates all information stored in the osCommerce Database, things like product photos and other binary files if any would need to be manually moved into the Magento Instance.
