Development of News and Entertainment Portal Using Activesite wCMS With Unique Image Uploading and Storage Mechanism

Neev developed a portal for EventFaqs, a leading platform for experiential marketing. This enabled the client to post news, updates, images and also embed videos. Users on the site could also create profiles and update them. A site-wide search was also implemented with the help of Google Custom Search API. Images were uploaded through an FTP connection and stored using a server storage path.

The Client

Established in 2007 and headquartered in Mumbai, EventFaqs is a platform dedicated to experiential marketing industry. The platform facilitates meetings, events, promotions and other opportunities among event organizers and marketing agencies.

Business Need

The client required Neev to build a portal so that they can publish news. It had to enable users to create profiles and update them. It also had to enable the client to post images and embed YouTube videos.

Neev Solution

Neev scope of work involved the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). JSP was used to create templates. Instead of the Lucene Search Engine that was in-built in ActiveSite, Google Custom Search API was used. MVC design pattern was made use of. Since images had big file sizes, they had to be resized before uploading. However, the performance took a toll since the image resizer tool consumed large bandwidth. Hence, images were uploaded through an FTP connection without using ActiveSite’s admin console. Also, storing images in database increased response time. This was overcome by storing images in a server storage path which brought down the response time. Login credentials were automatically generated for users who signed up. The users were then able to create a profile and update it.
